The firm of Burningham & Brown Solicitors was established just before the outbreak of World War II by Peter Hammett Brown and Godfrey Aldophis Burningham. When they returned from serving in the War, they took over the long established firm of Ernest J. White & Co. Ernest White had been a previous Mayor of Bath and the firm has continued to be an integral part of the Bath community ever since.
The original Partners had met on the rugby field and the firm has maintained its strong sporting connection ever since. The current Senior Partners, Brendan Perry and David Gay, who joined the firm in 1965 and 1966 respectively, have also played rugby for Bath. Brendan went on to play for the County and is a past President of Bath Rugby Club . David also played for Somerset, Bath, and Harlequins, and was 19 years old when he played rugby for England.
Sarah Loveless who specialises in Family Law and Probate joined the firm in 2002 and became a Partner in 2007, having learned from and complementing the work of David Gay and Brendan Perry, and as such are the three current Partners in the firm.
The firm is supported by a loyal and experienced staff who, as a group, have taken part in regular events to raise money for charity, and in the current year the beneficiaries of our charitable collections have included The Smile Train, Julian House and the Neo-Natal Unit at the RUH, Bath.
The office has always been centrally located in Bath starting out in Pierrepont Street, and moving to 1 Queen Square in 1970. When an opportunity to move across the Square to No. 20 Queen Square arose the office moved for the second time in 10 years and No. 20 has remained Burningham and Brown's permanent home ever since.
The fact that Burningham and Brown remains one of Bath's best known private client legal practices can be attributed partly to its history, but also to the consistent presence of the firm in the community, coupled with the staff and Partners' extensive local knowledge over the generations, which has allowed it to continuously meet the needs of each individual client.
We are different because we treat every client as an individual and not as part of "a process". Our staff are easy to talk to and will listen to what you want.
We are a Partner led service so your whole matter will always be dealt with by an experienced qualified and regulated Solicitor who can be trusted to have your best interests at heart.
We always make sure we are readily contactable (by direct dial telephone number, e-mail or even letter!) and pride ourselves on providing excellent client service in a friendly, approachable and welcoming environment.
We are not complacent. Although our regular client care surveys show a high level of satisfaction, we know we must constantly strive to improve the service we offer and be alert to our clients' best interests.
We are confident that we are competitive on price but still provide quality service.
We will always provide clear details of what the transaction entails and our expected costs prior to commencement of a matter. In the current financial climate, price together with good client service, remain difficult to find.
